Gary Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschelle Gibbs, and now Yuvraj Singh.
Yuvraj Singh smashed six sixes in an over for the first time in Twenty20 cricket as India scored an impressive 18-run victory over England in their Twenty20 World Championship Super Eights match in Kingsmead.
Yuvraj Singh’s savage assault on Stuart Broad made him the first batsman to hit six sixes in an over in Twenty20 internationals and the fourth in senior cricket.
Garry Sobers and Ravi Shastri did it in first-class matches, Herschelle Gibbs in the ODI (World Cup) and now Yuvraj who has done it in Twenty20
During that assault Yuvraj Singh reached fifty from just 12 balls to broke the record of fastest 50 of all the format (Test, ODI and Twenty20)
What Yuvraj Singh had to say after match,
I just went in to slog, With two overs to go, I just thought I’d use the crease and timed it well. In England I got hit for five sixes by Dimitri Mascarenhas, so I thought I had to take my chance.
“The first one was the longest one. Second one was, I think, square; third one was long-off; fourth was over point; fifth was a mishit over midwicket and sixth was again to long-on.”
It was Yuvraj Singh’s on-field war of words with Andrew Flintoff that spurred the left-hander to unleash his fury and hit Stuart Broad for six consecutive sixes. Yuvraj had hit Flintoff for back-to-back fours after which the duo were seen exchanging words. Soon after the incident, Yuvraj hit Broad for six sixes in a row and also hit Flintoff for a maximum before getting out.
Sweet Revenge - The perfect reply to the humiliation of five sixes by Mascarenhas on his last over at Oval (6th ODI)
Excerpt from Cricinfo’s ball-by-ball commentary
Broad to Yuvraj Singh, SIX
Broad looks quizzical … and miserable. Can he … can Yuvraj do it …
Broad to Yuvraj Singh, SIX, down on one knee and larruped over midwicket, that one was more nine iron, it went into the night sky and dropped with a thud in the jubilant crowd …
England have a team meeting. Shuffling deckchairs on the Jolly Roger though …
Broad to Yuvraj Singh, SIX, Shiver me timbers!: Broad goes round the wicket, bowls a filthy wide full toss and Yuvraj steers it over backward point and it clears the rope again
Broad to Yuvraj Singh, SIX, he’s hitting them everywhere, he steps to leg and smashes the ball over extra cover and it keeps on travelling … the fireworks start on top of the scoreboard … they’ve been going off in the middle for some time
Broad to Yuvraj Singh, SIX, now that really is sweet, no more than a dismissive flick off his legs, swatting a fly, and the ball arcs deep into the crowd beyond backward square leg
The dodgy TV measurement says that’s 111 yards … but as it landed outside the ground how the whatsists do they know? They guess, that’s how.
Broad to Yuvraj Singh, SIX, that’s out the ground, super shot over cow corner and it just kept going up

BACK TO WHERE HE BELONGS
Friday , Mar 12, 2010 at 0007 hrs
As he stepped onto the greens at the Sector 16 Stadium, it was like going down memory's lane for Yuvraj Singh. It was here that the Indian cricket star had learnt his first cricketing lessons and as he played a practice match for the Kings XI Punjab at the Stadium today, Yuvraj was his usual self.
Kings XI Punjab take on Delhi Daredevils on Saturday in the IPL and Yuvraj stays the best bet for Kings XI. And from what he showed today, injury or no injury bowlers beware: In the 39 balls that he faced, Yuvraj hit four huge sixes and five fours in his knock of 63.
It wasn't difficult, as it was here that Yuvraj had scored his first century in competitive cricket. "Against Gurdaspur in Katoch Shield in 1995," he was quick in recalling the inning, "and that made me believe in myself."
Today Yuvraj was merciless. Soon after he hit his fourth six, Yuvraj retired hurt because of stiff wrist and went straight to the team physio Patrick Farhat. "It feels amazingly good playing here. It is the same ground where I started playing cricket. I remember being dragged to the nets by my father (Yograj Singh) and made to hit the ball for hours."

He may not be the captain anymore but the aura of Yuvraj Singh surpasses that of all other players in the Kings XI Punjab.
Whether the local hero is zipping around in his yellow BMW sports car, shooting for a team promo or playing snooker with co-owner Preity Zinta, he is the centre of attraction.
Naturally, he holds the key to his side’s fortune in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“When one is a captain, one has to think of many things. But when you bat, you just want to bat through the innings and score runs for the team,” Yuvraj says, trying to hide the disappointment of being removed as the captain. “This IPL, I will play for Kings XI Punjab as a team member. I want to keep scoring runs for the team.”
Yuvraj, who grew up in the city, led the team in the first two editions of the tournament. In the first edition, the team lost in the semifinal. But in South African last year, it couldn’t make it to the top four.
Yuvraj has played 29 IPL matches and scored 639 runs at a staggering strike rate of 133. He continues to be the most threatening player in the entire tournament.
As the interview is going on, a young fan requests him to hit six sixes in an over in the IPL. “I cannot assure you six sixes, but I will try my level best to repeat it,” he replies.
At present, Yuvraj is recovering from an injury he suffered in Bangladesh in January. He tore a ligament in his left wrist and missed the second Test match against Bangladesh and the series against South Africa.
